It is a daily activity to work on one's character.  My tools are the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.  I don't really know where I began, but when I saw I needed to be serious, I was told to begin with the Ten Commandments.
Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.  II Tim. 2:15
And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; I Thessalonians 4:11
How does one study the Bible?  It's not just a matter of reading it.  It is looking up the meaning of words in a dictionary; reading what others have written; reading different versions of the Bible.  Pondering, reflecting on the meanings and how it applies to your issue.  Being inspired.

BEing disciplined.  Set aside a particular time to spend with your Pastor, the Bible and in my case, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
